Our Process

Simple, clear, and designed to fit a busy life - from first conversation to final plan.

We Make It Easy to Get Your Plan Done.

Getting your estate plan done should not feel complicated. At Heirloom, we have built a process that is straightforward, efficient, and designed around your schedule. Most clients go from initial conversation to signed documents in two to three meetings. No endless back-and-forth, no confusing legal jargon, no surprises.

Whether you prefer to meet in person at our Kansas City office or handle everything remotely from your home, the process is the same. You bring your situation. We bring the clarity.

1
Step One
Free Consultation

We start with a conversation, not a sales pitch. In your free consultation, We will listen to your situation, ask a few focused questions, and give you a clear picture of what your plan should include and what it will cost. There is no obligation and no pressure. If we are a good fit, we move forward. If not, you will leave with more clarity than you came in with.

Remote or in-office. This first meeting typically runs 30 to 45 minutes. You do not need to bring anything, though it helps to have a general sense of your family situation and any assets you want to protect.
2
Step Two
Your Planning Session

Once you decide to move forward, we schedule a dedicated planning session. This is where the real work happens. We walk through your goals, your family structure, your assets, and any specific concerns you have. Together, you build the framework of your plan. By the end of this meeting, you will know exactly what documents you are getting and why each one matters.

Come prepared. We will send you a simple intake form before this meeting. It covers the basics: names, assets, who you would name as your executor, trustee, and agent. Nothing complicated, just the information we need to build your plan correctly.
3
Step Three
Document Preparation

After your planning session, We draft your documents. We use flat-fee pricing, so there are no billing surprises while your plan is being prepared. You will receive a draft to review before your signing meeting. If you have questions or want to make changes, we handle them before the final signing.

Typical turnaround is 7 to 14 days from your planning session to draft delivery, depending on the complexity of your plan.
4
Step Four
Signing and Execution

Your signing meeting is where your plan becomes legally effective. We walk through each document so you understand what you are signing and why. We handle the notarization and witnessing requirements in-house. You leave with a complete, executed estate plan and clear instructions on next steps, including how to fund your trust if one is part of your plan.

Remote signing is available for clients who prefer it. We use a secure, legally compliant remote notarization process so you can sign from anywhere in Missouri.
5
Step Five
Ongoing Support

Your estate plan is not a one-time transaction. Life changes, and your plan should keep up. Marriage, divorce, new children, a business acquisition, a significant change in assets, any of these can affect your plan. We are here when those moments happen. Heirloom clients receive straightforward guidance on when and how to update their plans as their lives evolve.

We recommend reviewing your plan every three to five years or after any major life event. Updates are typically simple and far less expensive than starting over.

What to Have Ready for Your Planning Session

You do not need to gather everything before your free consultation. But for your planning session, it helps to have a general sense of the following:

Names and ages of your children or dependents
Who you would name as executor and trustee
Who you would name as guardian for minor children
A general sense of your assets (home, accounts, business interests)
Who you would name as your healthcare agent
Any specific concerns about how assets should be distributed
Whether you own a business and how it should be handled
Any prior estate planning documents you already have

Ready to Get Started?

The free consultation is the only step that requires any commitment from you. After that, you decide whether to move forward. Most people leave that first conversation wishing they had done it sooner.
